Newark Youth Leadership Project School Year Application 2022- 2023 SECTION 1

Thank you for being interested in a school year internship with Newark Youth Leadership Project (NYLP)! This internship is not just a job, but an internship program designed to provide exciting and thought-provoking opportunities in education and leadership with a focus on the environment.

NYLP is a paid internship and leadership program. Our work focuses on environmental issues, green jobs, healthy living, community education, food justice, environmental justice, and career and college exploration and readiness.

From October 4th, 2022, through May 2023, high school interns work under the guidance of Greater Newark Conservancy staff and College Mentors. During these eight months, interns will develop and hone skills in various areas. These areas include urban farming, community greening, horticulture, hydroponic growing, school garden education, community engagement, advocacy, and more!

What do we do? Greater Newark Conservancy fosters collaboration in our community at the intersection of environmental, food, and racial justice to promote Newark residents’ health and well-being. Our programs work to reverse the long history of systemic racism to improve social determinants of health by expanding access to green spaces, nutritious food, wellness education, and youth development.

What will you do? Over the course of the program, interns will be encouraged to explore the outdoors, have new experiences with food and the environment, and become the next generation of environmental and community leaders. This program will challenge you to try new things, experience outdoor activities, and lead a healthier lifestyle.
