Our Mission

Greater Newark Conservancy envisions each and every individual in our community living healthy, productive lives in harmony with nature.  We commit to centering equity and opportunity in all our programs and throughout our organization.

About Us

Greater Newark Conservancy was founded in 1987 as an extension of Rutgers Cooperative Extension to beautify New Jersey's urban communities. Our programs have evolved over the years, but at our core, we fundamentally believe that the natural environment is a big factor in a person’s well-being. To advance this vision, we create opportunities for people to engage in community gardening and farming; to access locally grown, nutritious produce; to experience personal growth through environmental education, youth leadership training, and support for returning citizens; and to invest in our neighborhoods through collaboration with partner organizations to plant seeds, to grow community, to change lives.
